When searching for hotels online it is always hit and miss. What appears to be a gorgeous retreat in the photos can often turn out to be a rundown building with rooms. And while I’m sure they were once the pinnacle of accommodation they have now seen better days.
This disappointment is what I was prepared for when I booked my Sydney accommodation at The Royal Hotel Randwick however the reality was so far from this expectation.
Affordable accommodation in a convenient location
After looking for hotels in Randwick near the Prince Of Wales Hospital for hours, I will be honest I wasn’t really looking for the most glamourous Sydney hotels. I wasn’t after a beach hotel with gorgeous views, I just wanted something in that area that offered parking. So when I booked and paid for my accommodation I wasn’t expecting the history filled establishment I walked into.
The Royal Hotel Randwick offer more than what meets the eye so don’t stereotype it as unkempt pub accommodation that forgoes maintenance. Inside is what I would describe as ‘heritage chic’, it retains the history of the National Trust building built in 1887 while also adding elegance.
What are the hotel rooms like?
I booked a queen room and there was more than enough space to walk around, put your bags down and relax. There was even enough to room to set up a portacot and still have plenty of space. The bathroom was large and well set up. But most importantly, the bed was comfortable!
– Queen bed
– Cupboard – for hanging clothes
– Bar fridge
– FREE Wi-Fi
It is important to note that access to the rooms is via stairs so it is not wheelchair and pram friendly.
Location, location, location
If you are looking for Sydney hotels near the Prince Of Wales Hospital, Coogee Beach or anywhere between the city and airport, the Royal Hotel Randwick is a great option. It is only a short walk to the Randwick shopping centre, beach and Sydney Children’s Hospital. Not only is it conveniently located, it is also affordable.
What else does the Royal Hotel in Randwick offer?
Besides its prominent location and beautiful rooms, the establishment also offers a restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. In addition, it also has three bars and a courtyard. When we stayed at the hotel it was midweek and was quiet so I cannot comment on whether it gets busy on weekends.
Overall thoughts – Royal Hotel Randwick review
Cleanliness: The room and bathroom/shower was very clean and felt fresh upon entry.
Cost: Affordable. It cost $140 per night midweek for a large Queen Size room.
Size of room: Quite large with plenty of space to relax.
Location: Very conveniently located for anyone wanting to visit Coogee Beach, Sydney city and the surrounding hospitals.
Parking: There is limited parking available in the hotels carpark. This is FREE for guests.
The Royal Hotel Randwick offers pleasant and surprising accommodation at an affordable rate. After my experience staying there, I found the staff to be very friendly, accommodating and I wouldn’t hesitate booking a room there again. If you are looking for hotels in Randwick I recommend staying there.
